Creating Culturally Competent Measures for Integrated Arts, Literacy and Cultural Identity Curricula Project -- Changing Worlds
(2009 - 2011)
CURL and Changing Worlds created a research partnership for a new, stand-alone measurement development study on the impact of Changing Worlds’ literacy program.
Over the course of three years (2009-2011), this research partnership led by the CURL research team participated in a longitudinal study to assess the following: how culturally-relevant, student-led ethnographic research, integrated with literacy and arts infused curricular approaches strengthen the dynamics of the classroom community and influence academic outcomes.
This process and outcome evaluation of three schools Changing Worlds works with in low-income, diverse communities in Chicago assisted Changing Worlds in evaluating their demonstration project in order to determine its effects on individual students, their classrooms, schools, and communities.
The evaluation results were used to inform future Changing Worlds programming, as well as provide support for an alternative to traditional teaching methods.
