Heart Women & Girls Partnership
(Spring 2011 - Fall 2016)
HEART Women and Girls (Health Education Advocacy Research and Training), led by co-founders, Nadiah Mohajir and Ayesha Akhtar, formed a partnership with CURL in 2011. This new and growing organization works with women and girls in Muslim communities to build "leadership and self-esteem through health and wellness programming." HEART collaborated with CURL to design research that will enhance and evaluate HEART's health education programming and advocacy efforts. Research was designed to gauge the attitudes, behaviors, and knowledge of sexual violence in Muslim communities. The goal is to use these data to better understand areas where social service organizations may need more training, education, and advocacy. HEART, in turn, will be better equipped to target their resources and those of others in the broader field.
