Open Books
(1998)
CURL supported a graduate student from the School of Education as she developed a youth-based literacy program to foster the love of reading and creative writing. The program she created, Open Books, received funding and began operating in two South Side public schools. In 1999-2000, Open Books expanded to six schools. As of 2009, the project has expanded to 12 elementary schools in Chicago.
