This project evaluated DCFS' Family Centered Services (FCS). Illinois is divided into 60+ Local Area Networks (LANs) each with its own FCS programming. CURL sub-contracted with University of Illinois to do an in-depth analysis of two Chicago LANs. 15+ social service agencies and community organizations located in LAN 65 and 67 were also involved in the project.

In conjunction with United Way of Chicago and with funding from AT&T, CURL developed a volunteer/internship online database. The database was put online and “housed” at the United Way until 2001 when they ceased using this system.

Bethel New Life Evaluation - Phases 1 and 2
This research documented the indicators of community change in a disadvantaged community on Chicago's West Side. The evaluation helped determine the impact of a community-based organization's programs on the quality of life in the community.

Community Computer Center
Started by the Illinois State Board of Education, Loyola's Science Linkages in the Community (SLIC) took the lead in developing a community computer lab at CURL. The purpose was to expand technology accessibility to community-based organizations.

Open Books
CURL supported a graduate student from the School of Education as she developed a youth-based literacy program to foster the love of reading and creative writing. The program she created, Open Book, received funding and began operating in two South Side public schools. In 1999-2000, Open Book expanded to six schools. As of 2009, the project has expanded to 12 elementary schools in Chicago.

Chicago's Peace Museum, founded in 1981, was a museum dedicated to spotlighting global movements for peace, as well as the social and physical costs of violence. This project attempted to measure the effectiveness of the museum's Drive-by Peace program.

Conference of Chicago Research and Public Policy
This conference was sponsored by the Urban University Collaborative and organized by the Policy Research Action Group (PRAG). Loyola/CURL hosted this first bi-annual conference attended by 400 people. A report on proceedings, "Linking Chicago Locally and Globally: Report on Chicago Research and Public Policy," was published.
