Legal Prep Charter Academies and CURL: Assessing Community Outreach Strategy

Legal Prep Charter Academies is a new Chicago Public School Charter School that will offer a legal-themed college preparatory education to approximately 600 students in grades 9-12 in an under-resourced Chicago community beginning in the fall of 2012. Legal Prep’s mission is to prepare Chicago’s youth to succeed in college and in life through a rigorous curriculum and a culture of high expectations.
Legal Prep and the Center for Urban Research and Learning partnered in the initial stages of the development of the high school in order to provide general guidance on community outreach strategy. CURL assisted Legal Prep by conducting focus groups in the target community with parents of potential students along with community leaders.
