HIV Housing Helps End Homelessness and HIV/AIDS in the United States

This chapter addresses the syndemic relationship between HIV/AIDS and homelessness or precarious housing. We focus nationally on the United States, and conclude with a case study from the city of Chicago. This chapter reviews a wide number of studies which demonstrate that homelessness or unstable housing greatly impacts the health and overall well-being of individuals living with HIV/AIDS.

Home Health Agency Workforce Development

(2009)

CURL helped evaluate Roseland Christian Health Ministries'(RCHM) development of a Home Health Agency to complement RCHM's existing Christian Community Health Center. This program created 70 new jobs for low income residents of Cook County, Illinois while serving the heath care needs of seniors living on the south side of Chicago and its adjacent south suburbs.

American Indian Health Services Needs Assessment Study - Chicago Metropolitan Region

(2004)

American Indian Health Services (AIHS) is a health care organization that provides direct services to American Indians and Alaska Natives in Metropolitan Chicago. The organization sought to undertake a review of the health status of American Indian/ Alaska Native people in its service areas so as to ascertain health needs. The team produced a comprehensive needs assessment report including not only the health assessment data but also identified the need for further education and outreach to the American Indians and Alaska Natives in the Chicago Region.

United Power for Action and Justice: Breaking the Cycle of Homelessness Reports - Policy Brief

(2002)

With funding from Department of Health and Human Services secured by United Power for Action and Justice, CURL partnered with United Power for  Chicago Health OutreachDeborah’s Place and Lakefront SRO to evaluate their systems integration demonstration project. The overall goal of the demonstration project was to break the cycle of homelessness by providing services in a coordinated fashion.

Development of Peer Intervention in Risk-Taking Behavior Among Teenagers

(1997)

This project developed between the principal and the faculty of Pierce Elementary School and CURL researchers to make recommendations for strategic interventions to effect risk taking by their students.  Dr. Vera and her colleagues went on to publish an article in the Journal of Clinical Child Psychology called "A Qualitative Investigation of Perceptions of Violence Risk Factors in Low-Income African American Children."
